Using Laundromats While Traveling On The Open Road

Vicky Ellis

When you are constantly on the road, you will need to rely on laundromats to make sure that your clothes are adequately washed. Given that laundromats vary in terms of the services they provide, it can be challenging to make the most of each situation unless you are well-prepared.

Locate Laundromats Before The Trip

Before you go on your trip, look up several laundromats along your route so that you can know where they are located. At each stop, you can look up specific details, such as whether you need to bring coins or pay for the laundry with a card.

Change Your Clothes Less Frequently

The less frequently you change your clothes, the fewer stops to a laundromat you will have to make. You can wear a lot of clothes for two days, but you will want to change your underwear and socks everyday. Find a place to shower and perform a complete change of clothing after the shower.

Wash Clothes In Two Separate Batches

Do not wash all of your clothes all at once, because you will risk having your clothes stolen. If someone takes your clothing out of the washer or dryer you will be without extra clothes until you can purchase more, which can be expensive. Store your clothes in two laundry bags that have holes to allow the laundry to breathe. One bag will store clean clothes and the other will store the clothes for the laundromat.

Decide Whether To Bring Your Own Detergent

If you have enough room in your vehicle, bring your own detergent. While some laundromats provide affordable detergent, you will be able to purchase detergent from a grocery store while it is on sale and stock up. Still, the single-load detergent is much more convenient.

Be Careful When Leaving Your Clothes Behind

Ideally, you should bring a mobile device with you so you can get other work done or entertain yourself while you wait for your laundry to finish. Also, some laundromats come with a restaurant where you can get a cup of coffee. If you leave the laundromat, it is easy to lose track of time and leave your clothes in the washer for too long. If you must, use a timer and take note of how long the washing machine takes. Otherwise, washing your clothes at a laundromat isn't much different than washing at home, and your trip will be much more enjoyable with fresh clothes.
