Bringing your lunch to work is a great way to save money and also time. However, you will want a good, functional lunch box in which to transport your food. With so many lunch boxes on the market, how do you go about choosing one? Here are a few qualities and features to look for.
A Neutral Color
Since you will probably be carrying your lunch box while wearing all sorts of different outfits, you want to choose one in a neutral color that will match everything. Gray tends to be a good color choice. It's dark enough that, unlike white, it won't immediately start to look dingy or dirty. It will also match most anything. If you find plain gray boring, look for a gray lunch box with a light, subtle pattern.
Good Insulation
Chances are, you will want to bring refrigerated or cold items for lunch quite often. You, therefore, want a lunch box that is well-insulated that will protect your food from the warm surroundings. Feel the sides of the lunch box, and pay attention to how thick they are. Do they feel like they have a good amount of stuffing or insulation inside? Thicker-walled lunch boxes will do a better job of keeping cold food cold.
An Ice Pack Pouch
Putting an ice pack in your lunch box will keep things cold for much longer. The best lunch boxes have an individual slot or pocket for your ice pack. They may even come with a special ice pack that fits in this slot. This is more convenient than letting the ice pack bop around your lunch bag all day and potentially squish things.
A Comfortable Handle
How will you carry the lunch box? Look for one that has a substantially sized handle so that you can grab it easily. If you're someone who always has a lot of things in their hands, then you may want to look for a lunch box with an over-the-shoulder strap. One with a little extra padding on this strap will be nice, as the padding will keep the strap from digging into your shoulder.
Lunch boxes come in all shapes and sizes. At the end of the day, it is all about choosing one that works for you. In most cases, a gray luxury lunch tote with good insulation, an ice pack slot, and a comfortable handle will serve you well.
